GAMING, PROCRASTINATION, WORK, MOTIVATION... bed.

i have been off college a hell of al lot because of various reasons:

- migrains
- all nighters
- procrastination
- mental block
- nerves
etc...

life is so stressfull so i tent to retreat in to one of my various games consoles instead of facing the problems since i know it will bring on the migrains and then that builds up more work which means more stress which means more running away to my wee game worlds. its a vicious cycle and i cant seem to break it :( well i am now tring to break out of this habit even though it doesnt help now i have a job and they give me AW DA HOURS! which makes me sad some of the lecturers are nice about it but since it isnt in the 'rules' or whatever they cant really do anything but its not their fault but some lecturer(s) are more crabby and dont want to hear it which adds to ti all and makes me feel worse thus plunging me deeper into this cycle of DOOM! well not doom but bad shit haha! i think this may be because i dont really seem stressed around my friends in the class but the truth is they help me forget about my worries like my games do however my college mother(s) (you know who you are slags) nag at me to do work which is only for my best however it does bring back all the stress and flings me back into the 'DOOM' cycle. also abcenses will affect my funding so... yeah... :'( help.

(RECAP!) because i havent blogged in like months... ;)

well since im going to be recapping months of work this post may be rather long and i may forget a couple of things so ill come back and edit this [oh and sorry for my horrid spelling] :)

- I will try and get some images of the works i have done thus far so bare with! :3 -

DRAWING! - NEGATIVE SPACE

ok well in the really early weeks of the course we were given the brief of negative space to explore with in my drawing class which atfirst made me want to punch something very hard! but as the lecturer explained the principle of this brief it really helped me when trying to churn out different pieces for the breif and i tried simplifying the subject matter down massivley and see how it created visual impact which i think was successful. i did like some of my pieces from this brief and it helped me to be able to appreciate all areas of a drawing rather then just the subject matter. The brief also helped me improve my skills of turning a subject matter what isnt very interesting into something visually impacting and with depth which i think will be useful and a transferrable trait to have within the Art and Design practice.

CREATIVE CONCEPTS - FRUIT BABY!

HAHA oh yes the 'fruit baby' well i decided to cut off the end of a paciphier and stuck it to him and gave im a italian mustache because he was an itallian baby but had a moustche because of reasons :) yeah. well during the fruit brief i was alittle intimidated by the rst of my classmates because all of their sketchbooks were so expressive and colourful whereas mine was rather simplistic and looked like a product design folio so i thought i was doint it wrong and thus found it hard working in a way i want really comfortable with. i initially gathered research for this brief by looking at several areas that could affect the 'design' of a fruit such as habitat, dispersion methods, reproduction etc and how those aspects would influence the fruits nature. i then went on to create numerous concepts for different fruit designs and then picked the one i wanted to create the most or i found the most potential in. i chose one of my concepts called the 'seaphire' a pun, i know but i couldnt help myself :') i then created a small model of this fruit using methods we had been shown in our 3D workshops. (ill probably go into more detail at a later date)

CRAFT!

In the 3D/2D workshops the brief/ theme was 'Transformation' and i think id take a personal approach to this theme since i think i have totally changed/transformed through my teenage years in several ways such as confidence, personality, sexuality and near enough every way however i dont know 'deep' i am comfortable with going yet :/ we were shown a TONE of diffenent techniques to alter/create/manipulate materials and processes to create different pieces of  'Art'. We were introduced to using the bansaw so we could utilize that to cut cout some materials quickley and accuratly (such as wood). and around the same time we were shown how to create silk paper which was fun since it was messy but not the kind of messy that takes forever to clean up and it creates rather pretty colourful pieces :3 We also were introduced to making felt and oh my gosh since i have NO upper body strength it was so difficult keepint that much force down whilst rolling the felt for that length of time, i was dead. but i did produce a rather lovely felt pot and something that looks like a bit of fire bacon! We also were introduced to creating and using plaster which i was happy with since you can make almost anything out of it! (well form wise) and i have created several pieces with this methos even though i think im too slow with doing so...  :D We were also introduced to using the 'Vaccume Former' and this is relativley easy and i think it could be used to create quick prototype models efficiently.

CONTEXUAL STUDIES - AKA - THE WRITING BIT!.. yawn - or is it?

The Contexual Studies Class is more interesting then i thought it would be we had a lecture Nicholas Oddy who was a guest lecturer from GSA. He gave a presentation about branding and several aspects surrounding it such as how it came to be, how it's changed, how it effects us etc. I found it rether interesting since i had preveously done business management and product design and this understood SOME of his topics however some of it did bore me to tears. SORRY!

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT!

In my PDP classes we basically discussed several ways of self evaluation and how to implove our attitudes/ organisation skills etc which i think i need to work on since in rather rubbish when i comes to this side of things haha! we also went over things such as our long term/short term goals this is something i cant decide on i know i want to work in the field of art and design but not whicha rea just yet because i love fashion however i do enjoy graphics and have a 'nack' for it :) this class also helped with the 'Mid Modules' that we have to repeadedly fill out when we are halfway through our briefs which i find helpful since -as you can see im not the most literate person (is that even the right word? well if not it is proof)-

DRAWING - PERSONAL BELONGING!

Well for the next brief that we were given in our drawing class was to study in my 'Drawing' class was to indepthly study a personal object/ belonging. i chose my Parka which is one of my proxed posessions since it is beautiful, versatile, and comfy as hell. initially my lecturer sneered at my idea and said something along the lines of 'you have clearly put no thought into this atall' which i was sorta offended i chose my marka for the previous reasons and it was my first purchase that i made when i got my first ever ob so it was the first thing i ever bought by myself from money i made so i was doing it no matter what he said. #ATTITUDE #BITCH yeah im gonna make hashtags a thing now so leave now if you dont like it ;) well this brief i acctually enjoyed because my parka has so many different parts to it so i was spoilt for choice really! so i inspected all the crevices of my garment and did studies fro  it then looked at different medium(s) -is there and 's'? well idk.- i finally came up with 4 final pieces and iwas rather chuffed with them but i forgot to spray them and the graphite smudged! wah! :( but they still looked ok aha!

CREATIVE CONCEPTS - SCALE!

motherf**king scale... i hated this brief with a bloody putrid passion. i like having alittle nudge in a general direction but this brief had none i was stumped. maybe i hated it at first because i couldnt churn out ideas? so i decided to look at the music scale but genuinly didnt really know what i was doing haha! i then pregressed from looking at the music scale to the scale of people who can be united unter music like at festivals etc. this then went on to me looking at the power scale and how one person can have contol over a large amount of people thus led me on to looking at Hitler and the Nazis which mad emy sketchbook look like shine to them which was rather funny! i decided to create a poster for a 'Nazi Concert' to emphasize that the controll celebraties have over their fans is not too far from how Hitler had control over the Nazi's and on how large a scale the control/power is. so yeah... glad that shit is done.

(to be continued in my next post since this one is apparently too long now haha)

Recap of the course so far, week 2...

Week 2:

Monday - First Lecture [PDP/study skills],This lecture was about confidence building and trying to get ourselves to realize our own potential and abilities and stop putting ourselves down (if we id that). We had to wright 40 things that were positive about ourselves! 40 THINGS! is that even possible?.. I wrote down how amazingly talented and gorgeous i am an how i am going to be as famous as Picasso or Moet, OH OR MAYBE Anna Wintour - the English editor-in-chief of American Vogue if you didn't know... you really should have, ANYWAY i digress, we were also assigned to o several other activities such as make a cute little mind map on what qualities i feel the ideal student should have an if i ha them.. ill try  get a photo of it soon.
              - Second Lecture [Drawing], In Drawing We were given another brief on Positive and Negative Space. I was rather exited since i have never done anything on the subject before so this was all new waters, the reason i wanted to do this course, explore all possible horizons. So the first thing to tackle was to jot down four preliminary sketches of interesting places around the college. me and my peers dispersed around the college drawing whatever we deemed suitable. i was stumped at first, due to the fact that i didn't really know how to use negative space so i was just guessing - i will upload pictures of my sketches, don't expect any masterpieces, i'm just warning you - it was fair to say i was so incredibly dirty by the end of that lesson. Yep.

Tuesday - First Lecture [3D/ sculpture] Now that we had been inducted into the course we were finally given a workshop (i know its only week two but i like doing things!) we were shown various origami techniques which i can remember the names of at this moment in time so there's another thing i need to look up for you guys. well it was fun, i made a couple of rough 'experiments' if that is the right word which i will show y'all in a picture! :)

- Well since i was halfway through this blog when i stopped blogging i have forgotten exactly what happened that week so ill create a post or several 'mini posts' to recap all i have done thus far, SORRY! :')

Recap on the course so far...

(I have terrible memory so these records may be a little on the muddled side, sorry! :])

Week 1:

Monday - First Lecture [PDP/study skills], we ere introduced to the learner charter and the rights and responsibilities we had as a student.
              - Second Lecture [Drawing], we were given our first brief 'draw this box'. the brief was a one day brief an was incredibly vague and thus i imagined we were meant to think outside the 'box' and give our own interpretation of what the box, in our head was. i drew a brain inside the  with a rainbow of colours spilling out from the top of the lid. this was to show i tough the box was my brain and all the potential ideas it holds.

Tuesday - First Lecture [3D/ sculpture] we were introduced to he 3D/ craft room and told about all the potential tings we could be doing within the workshop.Allison also showed us a slideshow about various 3D designers along with some of her own work which was rater interesting, especially seeing the way 3D designers draw a the way Allison thinks ad approaches even a line.
             - Second Lecture [Creative Concepts] this lecture was by far the most unusual, we were told to adopt a fruit... yep a fruit, keep a diary for the fruit and take pictures with it etc as if it was our own. i thought it was such a wacky idea, maybe edging on the side of absurd. however Dot -our lecturer- ensured us it was worthwhile. we also got the first part of or brief, to research all aspects of fruits eg. fruit in art to the mythical qualities of fruit. so that's what we did.

Friday - First Lecture [Contextual Studies] We were given a lecture on 'The Two Jacks' -Jack Kirby and Jack Vettriano- it was largely about how Jack Kirby was relativity unknown even though he was the creator of the biggest known comics of all time - MARVEL. The part on Jack Vettriano was ow his art is unpopular to those who are 'educated' in art. and how his works appeal to the consumers who don't really have ay knowledge in art.
             - Second Lecture [2D Design] The lecturer -Dee- went over the handbook or module brief, which was transformation. apart fro that she let us work away on our ideas for the brief.

Week Summary:  In my own time i contemplated what way i should tackle the 'Transformation' brief. I finally came to the conclusion that since i drastically changes since i was little ( wen i was in the 'closet' and ow when i came 'out') so this pathway will be highly personal and thus will be unique and tell a 'story' of this important segment of my life. For the Fruit brief i decided to adopt a Grapefruit. He's called Gino, he's from Italy. Yes i do realize how crazy this all sounds, but i love it!
